TEMPORARY VISA TYPE I (Volunteer)
GENERAL RULE:
Foreign citizens must have this type of visa when travelling to Brazil to do voluntary work (activities undertaken on behalf of religious entities, charitable organisations and non-profit NGOs, that do not constitute employment of any form, paid or unpaid, with or without a contract.
Once all the necessary documentation is received, the Embassy must submit the application to the appropriate Brazilian authorities in Brazil and receive authorization to grant the visa. The processing time in Brazil may take up to 3 (three) months.
Specific requirements:
• Proof of studies and professional qualification compatible with the activities to be carried out in Brazil. The diplomas and courses in Swedish must be translated into Portuguese, Spanish, French or English by an official translator before being delivered at the Embassy, together with authenticated photocopies of the original;
The Embassy will judge if the professional qualifications are compatible. If they are judged insufficient at the discretion of the Embassy, the application will be returned.
• Letter of invitation from the Brazilian institution specifying details of work place and type of activities to be carried out by the applicant, that the applicant is going to Brazil to provide unpaid services as a volunteer in that country, certified by a Notary Public in Brazil (“Cartório”);
• Written statement from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the maintenance of the applicant while in Brazil and for his/her return to Sweden, certified by a Notary Public in Brazil;
The institution must assume responsibility, not the applicant.
• Written statement from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the health care of the applicant and his dependants during their stay in Brazil, certified by a Notary Public in Brazil;
The institution must assume responsibility, not the applicant.
• Proof of constitution of the Brazilian sponsoring institution, i.e. social statutes, articles of association, appointment act or nomination of the current board of directors - legalized photocopies of the documents by a Notary Public in Brazil;
• Proof of registration with the respective National, State, Federal District or Municipal Social Welfare Council (“Conselho de Assistência Social”), legalized photocopies of the documents by a Notary Public in Brazil;
• Proof that the Brazilian institution is fully functional/operational, certified by a Notary Public in Brazil;

• Passport valid for at least 6 months (the Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports);

If you get a message about the site’s security certificate, click on “continue to this website”.Fill in the information and print out the receipt at the end. Attach a passport size photo to the receipt and sign it in the appropriate box. Please note: The receipt from the online application is only valid for one month.

• One passport-type photo, in color, front view, (snapshots are not accepted);
• For stays over 30 days: Certificate of Non-Criminal Record for applicants over 18 years, issued by the “Rikspolisstyrelsen” to be obtained at www.polisen.se – register utdrag, within 90 days from delivered at the Embassy. The document will be legalized by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
• Birth Certificate -- Personbevis to be obtained from Skattemyndigheten/Folkbokföringen, in English, with parents name on, duly signed by the officer in charge at the “Folkbokföringen”, authenticated by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
• Proof that the applicant has been a resident in Sweden for the last 12 months (for example, Personbevis);
• Proof of holding means sufficient to support himself/herself in Brazil or letter of the institution in Brazil taking responsibility for the applicant’s maintenance and return trip to Brazil;
• An applicant under 18 years of age not traveling with both parents or legal guardian (s) must provide a notorized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent and guardian. This document will be authenticated by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
• Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see information on vaccination below).
Consular Fees and Processing Time
• All consular fees should be paid by Bankgiro, number 5662-5825 and the receipt shall be enclosed with the documents; How to pay consular fees (please refer to our webpage: www.brazilianembassy.se – English – Consular Section);
• The consular fee for a Temporary Visa I is
SEK 600. This fee must be paid only after the visa is approved by the Brazilian authorities in Brazil.
•Based on reciprocity, citizens from:
the USA pay an additional processing fee of
SEK 1.500
• For each document legalized at the Consular Sector: SEK 200;
• Applications made by mail or through an agent or third party shall be charged an additional fee of
SEK 200;
• When the Embassy receives authorization to issue a visa from the Brazilian authorities and after all the documentation has been received at the Embassy and fees are paid, please allow a minimum of 10 (ten) working days for the issuance of the visa;
• In times of heavy workload waiting times will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.
Other Relevant Information
• This visa is good for multiple entries, for the time of the visa´s duration;
• General conditions are subject to change without prior notice;
• The requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all-inclusive. The Consular Sector of the Brazilian Embassy reserves the right to apply additional requirements, when they are deemed necessary.
Documentation returned by mail
Applicants should provide the Embassy with a self-addressed stamped envelope of suitable size.
