LATVIAN CITIZENS / RESIDENTS

Work visas (VITEM-V) are issued to a foreign citizen traveling to Brazil to work:

  1. as a professor, high level technician/researcher or scientist under an employment agreement to work for institutions in Brazil dedicated to teaching or research in science and technology;
  2. in a temporary employment in the Brazilian Government under an employment agreement or resulting from an international agreement subscribed by Brazil;
  3. as a trainee after the completion of university or professional studies, provided that he/she is not employed by a company or institution in Brazil;
  4. as a teacher for a training stage in the teaching of foreign languages;
  5. as a crewmember of a tourist ship operating in Brazilian waters;
  6. in the framework of a contract for transfer of technology or provision of technical assistance or under a technical cooperation agreement between a Brazilian and a foreign company or institution, provided that he/she is not employed by a Brazilian company or institution;
  7. same as above but in an emergency situation (see information regarding Vitem V – technical assistance) – “Resolução Normativa” nº 61, art. 7 °) – for up to 30 days only, without the possibility of extension;
  8. as a crewmember of a foreign ship operating in Brazilian waters under a service or risk contract between a Brazilian and a foreign company or institution;
  9. as a crewmember of a foreign fishing ship leased by a Brazilian company;
  10. as a dependant of a VITEM-V visa holder or of an applicant under one of the categories above, as defined by the pertinent resolution of the Brazilian National Immigration Council.

IMPORTANT NOTE: In all categories above, except “in an emergency situation” for which specific information is provided separately, the visa application and the pertinent documentation must be lodged firstly in Brazil by the applicant or his/her legal representative with the Brazilian Ministry of Labour.

AUTHORIZED VISAS

  • If the application is approved, the Consular Section will be authorized to issue the visa. In order to know whether your work visa was granted, send an email to the Consular Section: consular@brazilianembassy.se
  • You must present the documents listed below and pay the consular fee corresponding to the work visa. The authorization is valid for 180 days from the date it is received by the Consular Sector.

Please find below you the requirements that must be fulfilled by a Latvian citizen / resident to retrieve a Work Visa at the Embassy of Brazil in Stockholm:

Consular documentation requirements to retrieve the Visa:

1-Passport valid for a minimum of six months;

If you get a message about the site’s security certificate, click on “continue to this website”.Fill in the information and print out the receipt at the end. Attach a passport size photo to the receipt and sign it in the appropriate box. Please note: The receipt from the online application is only valid for one month.

 

3-One passport-type photo, in color, front view (snapshots are not accepted);


4-Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (in English), issued by the competent Latvian authorities - within 90 days from delivered at the Embassy (applicable to those over 18 years of age).

5-Birth Certificate (in English) (with parents name on),

Important:

Even if the documents listed under items (4) and (5) have already been presented before (at the Ministry of Labor in Brazil), the applicant should present them again (recently issued) in order to register at the Brazilian Federal Police when arriving in Brazil.

Other relevant information:

1-The issuance of a visa is a discretionary act of the Republic of Brazil. Since this is a purely discretionary act, there can be no guarantees regardless of the circumstances presented. A visa can be granted, denied, extended or changed according to national interests, even if it is a visa previously authorized. A visa is not a right in itself, but an expectation to be admitted.

2-Whenever there is a doubt on the purpose of the trip, the identity of the applicant, or if the applicant is aggressive or disrespectful with the Consular personnel, the visa can be denied or one also may be required to be interviewed by a consular officer, who may request additional documents or information.

3-Maximum duration of the VITEM-V visa is 2 (two) years. Extensions can be applied for at the Department of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days before the visa expires.

4-VITEM-V holders who are to stay in Brazil for more than 30 days must register in person at the Department of Federal Police in Brazil within the first 30 days after their arrival. Make sure to take with you the second (stamped) copy of the application form returned by the Consular Sector for presentation to the Federal Police.

5-Processing time:
Please calculate a minimum of 10 working days upon arrival of complete documentation at the Consular Section.

6-In times of heavy workload, waiting time will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.

CONSULAR FEES:

-A charge of SEK 1000 is applicable per visa.

-Based on reciprocity, citizens from:
the USA pay an additional processing fee of
SEK 1.500

-All applications submitted by agent or by mail are subject to a SEK 200 handling fee, in addition to any other applicable fee.

Payment of Consular Fees in Sweden:

Payments shall be made by Bankgiro no. 5662 5825 at Swedbank in favor of “Brazilian Embassy in Stockholm”.

In the bank form box “meddelande till betalningsmottagaren” the following information should be written:

a) Name of the applicant;

b) Consular service required by the applicant.

Payment of Consular Fees from overseas (from Latvia, for example):

Payments shall be made in Swedish kronor via SWIFT bank transfer in favor of “Brazilian Embassy in Stockholm” to the following account:
