Temporary Visa Type I (Researchers)

GENERAL RULE:

Researchers, scientists or professors who come to Brazil as members of a cultural, technological or scientific mission, provided that no income is derived from a Brazilian source (payment of daily travel allowances and scholarships excepted)

Specific requirements for a Temporary Visa Type 1 (Reseachers):

Letter from the Brazilian sponsoring organization informing activities to be pursued, length of stay and pecuniary conditions, duly recognized by a Notary Public in Brazil (“Cartório”)

Letter from the University or institution in Sweden informing the assignments specified by that University/institution;
NOTE

The collection of biological and mineral material and/or carrying out activities in indigenous areas require prior authorization from the “Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico” (CNPq) and/or by the “Fundação Nacional do Índio” (FUNAI);


General requirements:

Passport valid for at least 6 months (the Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports);

If you get a message about the site’s security certificate, click on “continue to this website”.Fill in the information and print out the receipt at the end. Attach a passport size photo to the receipt and sign it in the appropriate box. Please note: The receipt from the online application is only valid for one month.

One passport-type photo, in color, front view (snapshots are not accepted)

For stays over 30 days: Certificate of Non-Criminal Record for applicants over 18 years, issued by the “Rikspolisstyrelsen” to be obtained at www.polisen.se – register utdrag, within 90 days from delivered at the Embassy.

Birth Certificate -- Personbevis to be obtained from Skattemyndigheten/Folkbokföringen, in English, with parents name on, duly signed by the officer in charge at the “Folkbokföringen”;

Proof that the applicant has been a resident in Sweden for the last 12 months (for example, Personbevis);

Proof of holding means sufficient to support himself/herself in Brazil or letter of the institution in Brazil taking responsibility for the applicant’s maintenance and return trip from Brazil;

An applicant under 18 years of age not traveling with both parents or legal guardian (s) must provide a notorized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent and guardian. This document will be authenticated by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;

Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see our webpage for details on vaccination: vaccines).

Consular Fees and Processing Time:

All consular fees should be paid by Bankgiro, number 5662-5825 and the receipt shall be enclosed with the documents (How to pay consular fees: please refer to our website for detailed information);

  • The consular fee for a Temporary Visa I is SEK 600;
  • Based on reciprocity, citizens from:
    the USA pay an additional processing fee of SEK 1.500
  • For each document legalized at the Consular Sector: SEK 200;
  • Applications made by mail or through an agent or third party shall be charged an additional fee of
    SEK 200;
Obs.:
  • After all the documentation has been received at the Embassy and fees are paid, please allow a minimum of
    10 (ten) working days for the issuance of the visa;
  • In times of heavy workload waiting time will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.

The applicant must collect
her/his passport
in person

at the Consular Section.

 

Other Relevant Information:

- This visa is good for multiple entries, for the time of the visa´s duration;

- Arrival in Brazil must occur within 90 days from the date of issuance of the visa;

- General conditions are subject to change without prior notice;

- The requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all-inclusive. The Consular Sector of the Brazilian Embassy reserves the right to apply additional requirements, when they are deemed necessary.

Applicants should provide the Embassy with a self-addressed stamped envelope of suitable size.
