Visa - Temporary Visa VI (correspondent)

Regulations

Temporary Visa-VI may be granted to journalists assigned to work in Brazil as press, radio and television correspondents, as well as to their dependants. The issuance of this visa requires previous authorization from the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations.

Procedures:

  • Letter from the employer, on its letterhead stationary, and signed by the Editor-in-Chief or above, specifying the nature of the job to be performed and the duration of the contract, as well as providing proof of assumption of full financial responsibility by employer for the applicant’s stay in Brazil, including proof that her/his salary shall be paid by the employer in Sweden, and that the visa applicant has no intention to immigrate to Brazil.
  • The applicant must be formally employed by the news agency. Free-lancers are not eligible to receive this type of visa.

General requirements for a visa application for all categories

  1. Passport valid for at least 6 months (the Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports);

  2. On-line form

    If you get a message about the site’s security certificate, click on “continue to this website”.Fill in the information and print out the receipt at the end. Attach a passport size photo to the receipt and sign it in the appropriate box. Please note: The receipt from the online application is only valid for one month.

     

  3. One passport-type photo, in color, front view (snapshots are not accepted);
  4. For stays over 30 days: Certificate of Non-Criminal Record for applicants over 18 years, issued by the “Rikspolisstyrelsen” to be obtained at www.polisen.se – register utdrag, within 90 days from delivered at the Embassy.
    Obs.: Attention: this document is required from all applicants regardless of the duration of the visa.
    The document will be legalized by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
  5. Birth Certificate -- Personbevis to be obtained from Skattemyndigheten/Folkbokföringen, in English, with parents name on, duly signed by the officer in charge at the “Folkbokföringen”,
    Obs.: Attention: this document is required from all applicants regardless of the duration of the visa.
    authenticated by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
  6. Proof that the applicant has been a resident in Sweden for the last 12 months;
  7. Proof of holding means sufficient to support himself/herself in Brazil or letter of the institution in Brazil taking responsibility for the applicant’s maintenance and return trip to Brazil;
  8. An applicant under 18 years of age not traveling with both parents or legal guardian (s) must provide a notorized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent and guardian. This document will be authenticated by the Consular Sector at the cost of SEK 200;
  9. Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see information on vaccination below).

Documents issued in Latvia must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia before being submitted to the Consular Section of the Brazilian Embassy.



Consular Fees and Processing Time

  1. All consular fees should be paid by Bankgiro, number 5662-5825 and the receipt shall be enclosed with the documents; How to pay consular fees - refer to our webpage for details)
  2. The consular fee for a Temporary Visa VI is
    SEK 200.
  3. Based on reciprocity, citizens from:
    the USA pay an additional processing fee of
    SEK 1.400
  4. For each document legalized at the Consular Sector: SEK 200;
  5. Applications made by mail or through an agent or third party shall be charged an additional fee of
    SEK 200;
  6. Once the authorization from Brazil is received and all required documentation is submitted to the Embassy and fees paid,
    Please calculate at minimum
    10 working days
    upon arrival of complete documentation at the Consular Sector.

  7. In times of heavy workload waiting times will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.

Other Relevant Information

  1. This visa is good for multiple entries, for the time of the visa´s duration;
  2. Arrival in Brazil must occur within 90 days from the date of issuance of the visa.
  3. General conditions are subject to change without prior notice;
  4. The requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all-inclusive. The Consular Sector of the Brazilian Embassy reserves the right to apply additional requirements, when they are deemed necessary.

    Although you may submit you application by a mail or courier, the Embassy reserves the right to require the applicant to collect her/his passport in person at the Consular Section whenever it judges necessary.

  5. The issuance of a visa is a discretionary act of the Republic of Brazil. Since this is a purely discretionary act, there can be no guarantees regardless of the circumstances presented. A visa can be granted, denied, extended or changed according to national interests, even if it is a visa previously authorized. A visa is not a right in itself, but an expectation to be admitted.
  6. Whenever there is a doubt on the purpose of the trip, the identity of the applicant, or if the applicant is aggressive or disrespectful with the Consular personnel, the visa can be denied or one also may be required to be interviewed by a consular officer, who may request additional documents or information.
    Although you may submit you application by a mail or courier, the Embassy reserves the right to require the applicant to collect her/his passport in person at the Consular Section whenever it judges necessary.

Documentation returned by mail

  • Applicants should provide the Embassy with a self-addressed stamped envelope of suitable size.
  • The Embassy of Brazil cannot be held responsible for lost or delayed mail.
