Relationerna Brasilien - Sverige Presentation

Vänskapen mellan Brasilien och Sverige har sina rötter i familjebanden mellan Brasiliens och Sveriges dynastier samt den svenska utvandringen till Brasilien i slutet av 1800-talet. Amalia Beauharnais av Leuchtenberg, fru till Kejsaren Pedro I, var syster till Drottning Josefina av Leuchtenberg som var gift med Sveriges Kung Oscar I. Sverige och Brasilien upprätthöll diplomatiska relationer från 1826. På Riddarholmen, där svenska konungar och adelsmän ligger begravda finns det minnesstenar av Kejsarna Pedro I och Pedro II samt President Epitácio Pessoa (som tilldelades Serafimordern). De första svenska utvandrarna anlände till Brasilien 1890, och 1909 grundades den första sjöfartslinjen mellan de två länder.

Under slutet av 1800-talet påbörjades de svenska investeringar i Brasilien, och Ericsson var pionjären. Under perioden mellan första och andra världskriget ökade investeringstakten och investeringarna blev mer diversifierade. Detta gäller speciellt från och med 1946 med koncentration i São Paulo stad. Den Svenska-Brasilianska Handelskammaren har sitt säte i São Paulo stad (SP).

Närvaron av nästan 200 svenska företag i Brasilien, volymen av de svenska investeringarna, den bilaterala handeln och den växande strömmen av turister ger mycket vitalitet till relationen mellan Brasilien och Sverige. På det politiska planet, underlättas dialogen av de gemensamma grundvärdena fred, demokrati, hållbar utveckling, sociala rättvisa, förstärkning av FN, och multilateralism.

 

 

 

Chronology

1768: The scientist Daniel Solander, disciple of Carl von Linné, was the first known Swede to arrive in Brazil.

1796: José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva, patriarch of the independence, visited Sweden doing research in geology and mineralogy. He was admitted as Foreign Member (nr. 175) of the Royal Science Academy of Stockholm in October 25th of 1797.

1826 (January 5th): Establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil-Sweden.

1876: Dom Pedro II visited Stockholm and Uppsala. He was received at the Swedish Academy of Literature.

1841: The botanic scientist Anders Fredrik Regnell emigrated to Brazil, settling in Caldas, Minas Gerais, where he deceased in 1884. He gathered and researched the Brazilian flora and dispatched more than 250 thousand species to the collections at the University of Uppsala and the Museum of Natural History of Stockholm, where the Regnellian Herbarium stands as one of the most important botanical collections (source: The Swedish Museu of Natural History www.nrm.se).

1892-1894: Carl Axel Magnus Lindman and Gustaf Oskar Andersson Malme, botanical scientists and disciples of Regnell, participated of an expedition to Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso) to gather and collect the flora. (source: The Swedish Museu of Natural History www.nrm.se).

1890-1891 and 1910-1911: First groups of Swedish immigrants start to arrive in Brazil.

1891: Ericsson installed the first telephone in Brazil.

1909: Johnson Line established the first regular sea route between Brazil-Sweden.

1911: The missionaries Daniel Berg and Gunnar Vingren founded the Igreja Assembléia de Deus, in Belém (Pará), today the biggest pentecostal church in Brazil.

1912: ASEA, nowadays ABB, furnished the first electrical equipment to the Sugar Loaf trolley.

1915: The first Swedish companies to establish themselves in Brazil were AGA (industrial gases) and SKF (rolling bearings).

1958: Brazil won its first World Cup in Stockholm, with the team that had Pelé and Garrincha.

1984: State visit of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia to Brazil. Signature of the Bilateral Agreement about Economic, Industrial and Technologic Cooperation and the creation of the Mixed Intergovernmental Commission.

1985: The Minister of External Relations Olavo Setúbal visited Sweden.

1986: The Minister of External Relations Roberto de Abreu Sodré was present at the funeral rites in honour of the ex-prime minister Olof Palme.

1987: The Chancellor Roberto de Abreu Sodré visited Sweden and was received by King Carl XVI Gustaf, Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson and Chancellor Sten Andersson.

1987: Brazilian Authorities visited Sweden (the Minister of Mines and Energy; the Minister of Aeronautics; Minister of Infrastructure) and Swedish Authorities went to Brazil (Minister of Industry, Commander-in-chief of the Air Force).

1991: President Fernando Collor de Mello visited Stockholm.

1995: The Minister of Transport and the Minister of Sports visited Stockholm.

1996: The Minister of Science and Technology and the Minister of the Navy visited Sweden.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Björn von Sydow visited Brazil, together with a group of Swedish businessmen.

1997 (October): Visit of the National Secretary of Human Rights José Gregori to Stockholm.

1998 (14-21 March): Royal Technology Mission in Brazil lead by King Carl XVI Gustaf.

1999 (May): Visit of the Defense Minister Björn von Sydow to Brazil.

1999 (December): Visit of the Minister of Foreign Relations Laila Freivalds to Brazil.

2000 (January): Visit of the Minister of Justice José Gregori to Stockholm, leading the Brazilian delegation in the International Forum about the Holocaust. Bilateral meeting and lunch with Minister of Justice Laila Freivalds.

2000 (July): Visit to Brazil of the Defense Minister Björn von Sydow and signature of the Memorandum about Cooperation between Brazil-Sweden in Matters Regarding Defense.

2000 (August-September): Visit to Brazil of the Financial Committee of the Parliament of Sweden (Brasília, Rio and São Paulo).

2000 (September): Visit to Sweden of the Defense Minister Geraldo Quintão.

2001 (April): Visit to Brazil of the Dfense Minister Björn Von Sydow.

2002 (18-19 February): Jan Grönlund, State-Secretary for Industry, Employment and Communications visited Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba and Porto Seguro.

2002 (21-24 February): The President Fernando Henrique Cardoso visited Stockholm to participate in a meeting about Progressive Governance (an initiative of President Bill Clinton for the dialogue between Chiefs of States and Government with social-democrat orientation).

2002 (14-16 May): Visita to Stockholm of the Vice-President Marco Maciel.

2002 (22-24 June):Visita to Rio de Janeiro of the Prime-minister Göran Persson to participate of the transfer ceremony of the Seat of the Environment and Sustainable Summit to Johannesburg.

2002/2003 (28 December-2 January): Prime-Minister Göran Persson, leading a delegation, was present at the innauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

2003 (19 May) : Visit of the Secretary of National Treasury Joaquim Ferreira Levy, to participate of the forum promoted by the World Bank and the Swedish Government.

2003 (October) Visit to Brazil by the Vice Prime-Minister Margareta Winberg and the Minister of Political CoordinationPär Nuder.

2004( 25-27 May): Visit to Stockholm by the Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil in the occasion of the Astrid Lindgren Award to the Brazilian writer Lygia Bojunga.

2004 (14-18 June): The Minister of Industry and Commerce Leif Pagrotsky visited Brazil to participate of the XI UNCTAD (São Paulo).

2004 (25-27 August): Visit to Stockholm of the Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce Luiz Fernando Furlan.

2004 (20 September): The President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva met Prime-Minister Göran Persson, in New York, during the 59th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

2004 (8-10 November): The Minister for International Cooperation Carin Jämtin visited Brazil in occasion of the UNESCO Conference about Development Goals of the Milenium.

2005 (8 March): The Personal Representant of the President, Ambassador Antônio de Aguiar Patriota, participated of the meeting of the Group of the 16 in Stockholm(the G-16 was created in 1995 by initiative of Sweden).

2005 (23 May): Gilberto Gil received in Stockholm the Polar Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, delivered by King Carl XVI Gustaf.

2005 (19-25 October): Visit to Brazil by the Minister of Integration and Gender Equality Jens Orback, to participate of the II International Seminar for the Prevention of Sexual Exploration of Children and Adolescents(Fortaleza) and to commemorate the United Nations Day (Brasília).
